Bastia Style Double Sided Epsom Leather Coin Purse in Orange & Gris Etain

This is my version of the classic Bastia coin purse. An elegant and practical coin purse which provides convenient access to your small change with little chance of them falling out.

I make all pieces to order, myself and entirely by hand.

This one is made from Epsom Calfskin, a scratch resistant and durable, printed grain chrome-tanned leather.

Each item is made from 2 pieces of 30x30cm leather (1800sqcm total). The leather is bonded together resulting in 1 piece of 30x30cm double sided leather. A template is then used to hand cut the piece to the correct shape. A 1mm decorative line is creased along all edges of the external side.

All cut edges are then carefully sanded by hand to remove any imperfections and allow for a smooth finished edge. Next, the edges are carefully hand painted with a professional leather specific edge paint, paying close attention as not to over-apply and cause paint to bleed onto the inside colour. The paint is left to dry, after which it is sanded with a fine 800 grit sandpaper. Finally, the painted edges are finished with a heated fileteuse.
